Under25Routes - Laboratory Week
Well what a first week it has been. Peshkar’s artistic lead on Under25Routes is Steph Meskell-Brocken. Steph will be leading our artists right the way through the four weeks of the residency, offering artistic intervention, inspiration and guidance along the way. Steph has kept a close eye on the first week of Laboratory workshops and here are her thoughts on how it’s gone and what’s to come.
“Between the 10th and 16th June, we held our own Laboratory week for the Under 25 project in Liverpool and Manchester. The artists worked with a total of six guest artists (7 if you include the tiny bit of work that I did on Friday) across three different venues in Liverpool, Manchester and Salford.
These workshops covered devising techniques using personal stories, soundscaping, 3D modelling and storytelling and allowed the group to be able to expand upon their work in the previous two residencies and consolidate their learning thus far.
A series of key themes came out of these sessions:
- The importance of keeping things simple and being child-like in our ability to explore and create narrative.
- The outside world and nature.
- Drawing upon experience and being able to give ourselves over to emotion.
Looking back on the week it seems as though it moved by in a flash with a huge range of different influences and ideas coming at the group and myself. This presents a daunting but exciting task for us in sifting through, not only the material that has been created and considered during these sessions but also in going back and re-considering what has been done in the previous performances. This is our starting point for the first week of the Residency.”
