What’s your background?
I’m a songwriter, producer, and award-winning music facilitator based in Manchester. My roots are in computer-based music, but I also play guitar and piano, with some experience in drums and singing. I’m really passionate about creating opportunities for young people and showing that music can be a genuine, sustainable career path.
Who are your biggest influences?
Artistically? Who inspired you to become an artist?
My influences come from all over the place. Sometimes it’s producers or artists I admire, and other times it’s people I meet and experiences I have along the way.
I’ve wanted to be an artist for as long as I can remember. I started out obsessed with guitar and electronic music, which naturally led me into producing, DJing, and songwriting. From that point on, I knew this was what I wanted to do. I genuinely can’t imagine myself doing anything else.
How have you developed your career?
(From student to artist)
By constantly learning. I believe everyone has something to teach you, and I don’t think anyone is ever the finished product or the ultimate expert.
Alongside that, networking has been absolutely crucial. Building relationships and staying connected with people has played a huge role in shaping my career.
What work do you most enjoy doing?
I love being in a room with people, sharing ideas and creating together. There’s something special about meeting complete strangers and making meaningful music just by talking about life experiences. That said, I also really value the opposite end of the spectrum, being alone with my headphones on, fully in the zone, experimenting, pushing boundaries, and challenging my own expectations.
What advice would you give to a young artist beginning their journey to becoming an artist?
Go for it. Trust your instincts and focus on enjoying the journey rather than obsessing over the outcome.
University - Do you need to have been to
uni to make it as an artist?
Absolutely not. You don’t need a degree to succeed. However, university does put you in a unique position where you’re surrounded by other creatives all the time, and that can be incredibly valuable for networking and collaboration.
