We are thrilled to share some exciting news - Peshkar has been awarded £22,500 from players of People’s Postcode Lottery to support our core work with young people in Oldham.
For more than 30 years, Peshkar has been rooted in this community, creating opportunities for children and young people to engage with the arts, discover their creativity and shape their own futures. As we approach our 35th birthday in 2026, this award represents a wonderful recognition of our ongoing commitment to the young people of Oldham. Our mission is simple but vital: to break down barriers and ensure that all young people - regardless of background - can access and participate in the arts.
This award comes at a time when demand for our work has never been greater. The young people we work with live in some of the most disadvantaged areas in England, and face multiple challenges in accessing creative opportunities.
Thanks to this new funding, we will be able to expand our reach and deepen our impact across Oldham’s communities. As always, our approach will be led by the young people we work with, ensuring our programmes truly reflect their voices and aspirations.
Our Chair, Abdul Malik Ahad, sums up what this means for Peshkar:
“This award from players of People’s Postcode Lottery is a huge boost for Peshkar and for the communities we work in. Oldham has some of the most deprived neighbourhoods in England, and too often young people here face barriers to opportunities in the arts and creative industries. With this funding, we can continue to remove those barriers, give young people a voice, and show that worldclass creativity can flourish far beyond London.”
We want to thank the players of People’s Postcode Lottery for making this possible. Their support helps us continue to stand alongside the young people of Oldham, empowering them through creativity and culture.
Stay tuned to our website and social channels for updates on upcoming projects and stories from the young people who inspire us every day.
